Do More 24: Small Acts, Great Love

small acts (2)

IMG_9196In everybody’s life small acts of great love begin with fresh home-made biscuits, isn’t that right? It’s definitely true at Joseph’s House!

Our theme for the Do More 24 campaign is Small Acts, Great Love. It’s what we experience at Joseph’s House every day. It means so much to us that after 23 years, the doors of Joseph’s House are still open. We’re still welcoming and caring for men and women who are homeless and dying of AIDS and cancer. And today I’m asking for your help.

DOMORE24-twitProfileOn Thursday, June 6, hundreds of charities across the Washington, DC, area are participating in Do More 24 to build support and raise funds. Two years ago we learned how powerful this day-long effort can be when we raised over $16,000 for Joseph’s House in one day! It was incredible.

This year our goal is to raise $20,000 and at the same time, to tell hundreds – maybe even thousands more people about Joseph’s House: what we do and why; for whom, and how we nurture healing for all of us.

We’ll be active online and in our neighborhood, but our success depends on a strong team of friends – that’s you – people who care very much about the work we do at Joseph’s House, to help us get the word out.

I mentioned that our theme for the day is Small Acts, Great Love and we are sharing videos, photos and lots of stories about the small, everyday acts of love that are part of all of our lives. Will you join us? I really hope so.

Here are a few things you can do right now:

• “Like” our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter.

• Make a list of people you can email and ask to donate to Joseph’s House

• Plan to set aside a few minutes on Thursday, June 6, to send an email to your friends, share our videos and messages on Facebook and tweet on behalf of Joseph’s House.

• Take a few minutes to write down or make a short video about a small act of great love that happened in your life, then share it with your friends on June 6. Post your story or video on our Facebook page and yours, tweet with #SmallActsGreatLove and #DoMore24.

• If you’re in DC, stop by and see us at Tryst on 18th Street. We’ll be there from 6:00 am to 7:30 pm, encouraging small acts of great love and asking for support.

•Make a donation of whatever amount you can afford on June 6. Early financial support from friends on Thursday morning will help generate support from new donors.

End of Life CareAt Joseph’s House the simple act of going the distance with someone who is dying, sitting with them at the bedside, accompanying them as far as we can right up to the gates of heaven – is an act of great love. As is the memorial service we hold in our living room for everyone who passes away at Joseph’s House.

Many places that do good, important work are hurting. We’re not the only one. But you know and care about Joseph’s House. And I know that to you it really matters that Joseph’s House is still caring for the poorest of the poor in Washington DC. Joseph’s House really needs you now.

I hope so much that we’ll hear from you this week. Can’t wait to see your videos and read your stories of Small Acts, Great Love. Thanks again.

With all our love,

Patty
