Our Mission: Nurturing the Living, Accompanying the Dying

Mission Statement

The Joseph’s House community provides and coordinates holistic care for homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS and terminal cancer, supporting them on their life’s journey by honoring dignity, offering companionship, and promoting justice.

History

Since 1990 Joseph’s House has served DC’s most vulnerable residents, providing care, understanding, and kindness to those who have nowhere else to go. Joseph’s House was originally founded to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support for men dying of AIDS. As HIV diagnoses saw longer timelines for care, Joseph’s House expanded to provide care to all genders and began housing individuals experiencing homelessness with terminal cancer. We also provide transitional support for residents with HIV whose health improves while at Joseph’s House and ongoing support for former residents to help them maintain their health and well-being.
